Main Idea and Supporting Details

We have been using this graphic organizer in class to help students grasp the concept of the main idea.  Students have to be able to locate supporting details to prove the main idea.  If they are unable to find any supporting details, then they probably have not correctly identified the main idea.  As your child reads at home, ask them to find the main idea of a paragraph or a book.  Be sure to have them locate supporting details.
